Kastners Church Cemetery:
The first Lutheran congregation located in what is today Gaston County North Carolina , was originally known as Kastners Lutheran
Congregation . In the absence of the church records , which were destroyed in the flood of 1916 , much of the information
about the church and its cemetary comes from other sources and oral tradition .
Adam Kastner , at
the age of 38 , along with his wife and 5 children sailed on the ship PATIENCE from Rotterdam Holland going via
England , and arrived in America at York County , Pennsylvania in Sept. 1748 . After remaining there for a
while , Adam moved his family to Piedmomt , North Carolina . Tradition tells us that Adam , FATHER of the Costner family in
our area ,held a meeting in his home . It is assumed that a log church was constructed on the Kastner property at some
time later. The first person buried in the cemetery (who has a marked stone) was Adam Kastner . Adam was buried on a hill
near his home .

William Wessley Farmer :
Wes as he was called , was a sawmiller most of his life . In those days the
sawmills were portable and they would go to wherever the stand of timber was , cut in out and move on to the next stand .
This resulted in the crew traveling around alot , in some cases they would be gone from home for weeks at a time and working
in some rather remote places . In some cases they would move their family with them . If they couldn`t find houseing , they
would build slab shacks to live in till they got that stand of timber cut . About 1920 , after cutting a stand in Elberton
Ga. , Wes brought his family to the Saluda River Old Town area of South Carolina . From there they moved to the Greenwood
S.C. area , from there they moved to the Cross Hill area (at least 2 locations) , From there they moved to the Goldville
area , where Wes died in 1939 .
